Position Summary
The Data Architect position is a member of the CE Strategy BI & analytics team and, as such, plays an important role in maintaining and growing existing client relationships. This role is both strategic and operational in nature, and an ideal candidate will possess the following:
A solid foundation in systems development:
- The candidate should understand the system development life cycle; software project management approaches; requirements, design, and test techniques.
Depth in data modeling and database design:
- As a core skill for this position, an ideal candidate is sound across all phases of data modeling, from conceptualization to database optimization.
- The required skills also extend into SQL development and perhaps database administration.
Breadth in established and emerging data technologies:
- An ideal candidate is either experienced or conversant in emerging tools like columnar and NoSQL databases, predictive analytics, data visualization, and unstructured data.
- While not necessarily deep in these technologies, the candidate is experienced in one or more, and understands them sufficiently enough to guide clients in understanding and adopting them.

The ability to conceptualize, understand, and articulate the big data picture:
- This position initiates, evaluates, and influences projects from the perspective of the entire organization.
- While mapping systems and interfaces used to manage data, sets standards for data management, analyzes current state and conceives future state, and owns/executes projects needed to close the gap between current state and future goals.
This position reports directly to the Director of Analytics & BI and indirectly to the V.P. of Client Service and has potential for advancement within the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
Evaluate current data systems
- This position is responsible for evaluating the current state of a client’s databases and other data systems. They will analyze these databases and identify new solutions to increase efficiency and performance.
Define database structures
- Define the overall database structure, including recovery, security, backup, and capability specifications. This definition provides a way for data architects to determine overall requirements for database structure.
Propose solutions
- After analyzing, evaluating, and defining current database structures, data architects create and propose solutions to upper management and stakeholders. This often includes designing a new database and presenting it to interested parties.
Implement database solutions
- Responsibilities include implementing the database solutions that are proposed as part of the larger project. This entire process includes developing process flows, coordinating with data engineers and analysts, and documenting the installation process.
Train new users
- As an expert in the new database solutions they design and implement, train new data analysts, engineers, or other client stakeholders.

Experience
3-5 years in a similar role

Education
Bachelor’s degree in related discipline (including data science, data engineering, MIS, analytics, or others) and master’s degree preferred
